Stacey La Riviere, Secretary of Public Affairs

Hi y’all! I’m Stacey LaRiviere, a junior at the College and officially a government major. I am honored to serve as the 2012-2013 Secretary of Public Affairs (PA) for the Student Assembly. As Secretary of Public Affairs, it’s my job to oversee PA efforts, including voter registration, information distribution, and speaker programs to inform you about legislative issues. I also work to strengthen the relationships the College has at the local, state, and national levels through facilitating face-to-face meetings and programs with legislators in the General Assembly (GA), the College, and most importantly, you. The PA department offers the student body a variety of programs, including: “Road to Richmond,” (an opportunity for Tribe members to breakfast with legislators and lobby in the GA building), the Richmond Internship Program, and on-campus session updates from Senators and Delegates.

As recent grads of W&M’s Student Leadership Foundation, my twin sister and I hope to launch a new leadership program that benefits local high schoolers. At W & M, I also serve as the President of Phi Alpha Delta, the pre-law fraternity, the Vice President of Scholarship for the Panhellenic Council, and am a member of Delta Gamma as well as two academic honoraries. This summer, I’m putting my government major to use during my internships with Senate Majority Leader Norment and with a political consulting firm in Richmond. If the events of the PA interest you, feel free to send me an email and help out the team!

Zachary Woodward, Director of Voter Registration

I’m a Junior at the College, majoring in Government and Religious Studies. Originally from Franklin, Massachusetts, I came to Virginia to enjoy its exciting political scene. As Director of Voter Registration, I work to make voter registration as simple and accessible as possible at the College and aim to get every student voter out to the polls on Tuesday, November 6th. Make sure to check Student Happenings and the Hark Upon the Ballot Facebook Page for information about on-campus voter registration drives; in addition, feel free to email me with any questions about voter registration. When I’m not “harking upon the ballot box,” I serve as the President of William & Mary Young Democrats and the Vice President of Richmond Oversight for the campus’s chapter of Virginia21. I also enjoy old movies, campy pop culture, and speaking with a wicked pissah New England dialect.

I’m currently in the 5th year B.A. to M.Ed. program to receive my Master’s degree in Elementary Education and will be graduating in May of 2013! While at William & Mary as an undergraduate, I was involved in a plethora of activities – Passing Notes A Cappella, Delta Delta Delta, Tour Guiding, the Alan K. Bukzin Memorial Bone Marrow Drive, the W&M Haiti Compact (serving as a co-leader), Branch Out International, the Senior Class Gift Committee (as a committee chair), and serving as a Senior Interviewer for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. I am extremely excited to begin to foster a stronger relationship between the School of Education (and William & Mary’s other graduate programs) and the Board of Visitors and to work with Drew on further connecting students with the BOV.
