Department of Public Affairs

Home / About the SA / Executive / Department of Public Affairs
The Public Affairs Department is dedicated to building a strong relationship between the William & Mary student body and the public at large. We accomplish this goal by acknowledging the three different ways of viewing students: (1) students as members of the college community, (2) students as members of the Williamsburg community, and (3) students as civic actors.

To give voice to students’ needs in the college community, we give regular presentations to the Board of Visitors as it makes decisions related to tuition, the student body, and college policy. To further integrate ourselves within the greater Williamsburg community, Public Affairs actively participates in the Neighborhood Council of Williamsburg and stays in constant communication with local authorities and elected officials; we also encourage students to become involved in community service and local governance. To maximize students’ potential as civic actors, Public Affairs promotes student voting, coordinates events with the school’s DC office, and assists in various forms of dialogue between students and our representatives in the Virginia General Assembly. Please feel free to contact the Secretary of Public Affairs or one of the department’s undersecretaries.
