Ryan Buckland, Secretary of Health & Safety
I’m a junior at the College, hailing from Richmond, VA. I am a public policy major. I am really excited to continue to be part of the Student Assembly, and I love being involved with things on campus at William and Mary.
I am so glad to have this opportunity to serve in the Student Assembly, and to use my unique perspective on campus. Everyone has a responsibility and can make an impact. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me at rsbuckland@email.wm.edu
Sophie Cohen, Undersecretary of Disability Services
Hi everyone! I’m a sophomore and I’m from Scottsdale, Arizona. I am a neuroscience major and am still exploring ideas for my minor. I have been actively involved in the disabilities community my whole life, as my 25 year old sister has Angelman Syndrome, which causes her to be severely intellectually disabled. My first cousin, who is profoundly hard of hearing, struggled throughout college because she did not have a supportive community around her. I want our student body to become more understanding of the gifts and struggles of disabled people and to learn to treat all people with respect no matter their abilities or disabilities. I look forward to creating a disabilities awareness week, improving handicap accessibility around campus and starting the R-word campaign. I have been involved in Best Buddies, Special Olympics, ARC, have tutored an autistic boy for many months and currently work with a boy who is autistic and has aspergers. I am thrilled to serve on the SA Exec! If you have any ideas or suggestions please don’t hesitate to shoot me an e-mail atsecohen@email.wm.edu!
Elizabeth Scott, Undersecretary of Sexual Health
I am a sophomore
at William and Mary, and I am excited to be working as the Undersecretary of Sexual Health. I come from a small town called Windsor, Virginia which is nestled about an hour and a half south of Williamsburg. When I’m not working with the Student Assembly, I can be seen attending Tribe football and basketball games. I am a huge sports fan, and I love attending any and all sports games. I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, and I serve on the College’s Committee for Equal Opportunity and Sexual Harassment. I am also a member of the Sexual Assault branch of HOPE known as Every Two Minutes. I love listening to old rap music and spending time on the sunken gardens under the sunshine. If you have any questions or just want to say hi feel free to e-mail me at ehscott@email.wm.edu
Katie Reid, Undersecretary of Physical Health and Substance Abuse
Hi! My name is Katie Reid, and I am a senior from Loudoun County Virginia. I’m a Hispanic Studies major and Math minor, and I am a member of the sorority Delta Gamma. I’m really excited to be a part of the Health and Safety Branch of the SA, specifically working as the undersecretary of physical health and substance abuse because it goes hand-in-hand with what I’m most passionate about at William and Mary. I spend the majority of my time at the Rec Center, where I am a fitness instructor and the Group Fitness Supervisor. Last year I was the Wellness Supervisor of the Fitness and Wellness Staff, which allowed me to create wellness incentive programs for both the staff and the patrons of the Rec Center. In being part of the SA, I hope to extend and broaden the awareness of the wellness opportunities available on campus.
Elizabeth Thomason, Undersecretary of Mental Health
Hi, I’m Elizabeth! I come from Ashland, VA, which is just north of Richmond. I’m a sophomore here at The College and I have a tentative major of Kinesiology alongside premed courses. In my freshman year I helped the Student Assembly with elections, joined the mental health branch of HOPE, enjoyed playing intermural soccer, and many other things. As Undersecretary of Mental Health and Safety, I plan to use the strength of the Student Assembly in order to raise awareness about mental health issues including depression and anxiety disorders. This will involve embracing those with the disorders, providing information to friends about how to help, and hopefully teaching students how to seek help themselves when it is needed. I’m really looking forward to being able to put my ideas into actions and make a difference when it comes to mental health! Any suggestions or questions are welcomed, just email me at ejthomason@email.wm.edu
