Campus Safety Assurance Act

An Act of the 318th Student Assembly of the College of William and Mary,

Sponsored by Mike Young (’11), Ryan Ruzic (JD ’11)

WHEREAS, Campus safety walks are important to do every year so that communication can exist between administrators and students to problem areas and other safety issues on campus.

WHEREAS, In order to ensure that these walks happen every year the Code of the Student Assembly needs to explicitly be amended so this is a responsibility all of its members share.

Now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Student Assembly of the College of William and Mary –

(1)    Amends the code to read as follows:

Chapter 4: Department of Health and Safety

§3.4-1. There shall be an Executive Department of Student Health and Safety. The Department shall manage, coordinate, and advocate for Assembly actions on student health, campus safety policy, and other related issues.

The Department shall have the following roles:

1. Coordination of and advocacy for Campus Safety Activities, including a campus safety walk to be done jointly with the college administration, student life committee, and other student organizations on a yearly basis.

2. Coordination of and advocacy for Sexual Assault Policy and Procedures

3. Working with the Student Recreation Center to coordinate student health, Intramural

Sports, and Club Sports activities.

§3.4-2. Within the Department of Health and Safety there shall be a Secretary of Health and Safety who shall control the Department. There shall also be Assistant Secretaries and other Deputies for the roles assigned to the Department in §3.4-1, as the President shall deem necessary.

§3.4-3. The roles prescribed in §3.4-1 may be expanded through the direction of the President.
